The materials we use in Maw's Habitat (and why)
When purchasing a rodent accessory, knowing what it is made of really makes the difference.
At Maw's Habitat, we believe that those buying for their pets deserve clear, specific information, not vague descriptions.
That's why here you'll find a clear overview of the materials we use and why we chose them.
The woods we use
Bilaminated poplar chipboard
We use poplar chipboard covered with a bilaminate (white or wood effect, depending on availability).
Why we use it:
- compact structure
- waterproof laminated surface
- easy cleaning
- good stability over time
Lamination creates a surface barrier that makes the panel more resistant to moisture than raw chipboard.
Bilaminated plywood
In some processes we use bilaminated plywood.
Main features:
- lighter than other panels
- good structural strength
- extra waterproof surface thanks to lamination
- good stability over time
It is a useful solution when you need to reduce weight while maintaining strength.
Beech laminated wood
For components that require greater solidity we use beech laminated wood.
Why we chose it:
- hard and resistant wood
- it is not a resinous wood
- good bite resistance
- excellent stability
Beech is highly prized in rodent gnawing accessories due to its compactness and reliability.
The metal parts
Aluminum (raw or satin)
For metal components we use aluminum, available in:
- raw version
- satin grey/silver version
Raw aluminum
Raw aluminum is not aesthetically processed , so it may have small surface marks or scratches.
👉 This is a normal feature of the raw material and does not affect its functionality.
Brushed / satin aluminum
In brushed or satin versions:
- the surface is sanded by hand
- surface scratches are reduced
- the appearance is more uniform and aesthetic
- cleaner gray/silver finish
It is the ideal choice for those looking for a more refined look.
Chamfering edges: a fundamental step
Regardless of the finish, all metal parts are hand-chamfered .
This step is used to:
- reduce the risk of scratches
- eliminate sharp edges
- increase safety for animals and owners
- improve the perceived quality of the product
It is a little visible but very important detail in daily practice.
What you won't find in our products
For design coherence we avoid:
- sharp metal edges
- grid running surfaces
- materials chosen only for aesthetic savings
- generic descriptions without real specifications
We prefer to be clear about materials rather than use vague terms.
Our philosophy
Maw's Habitat was born with a simple idea:
design accessories that we would use for our pets.
This means:
- declared materials
- manual work where needed
- attention to real safety
- no generic promises
We believe that transparency is part of quality.
Conclusion
When choosing an accessory for your rodent, knowing the materials is essential.
