Maw’s Habitat wheels can be equipped with an optional wheel lock, a system that allows you to temporarily prevent the wheel from rotating without having to remove it from the cage.

But what is it really for? And when can it be useful?

What is a wheel lock?

The wheel lock is a small mechanical system integrated into the fastening that allows you to stop the wheel from rotating when necessary.

It does not alter the wheel's normal operation: when the lock is disengaged, the wheel can spin freely as always.

When activated, however, rotation is prevented.

Why lock a wheel?

Normally, a wheel can always remain available. However, there are situations where it might be useful to temporarily limit its use.

For example:

• During the summer, especially during the hottest hours of the day, when it's preferable to prevent the rodent from overexerting itself with physical activity.
• During particular rest periods, when it may be useful to temporarily limit activity on the wheel.
• In the presence of weaning pups or pregnant females.
• To control its use, if you want to establish specific times of the day to make the wheel available.
• In any temporary situation where you prefer to prevent the use of the wheel without having to remove it completely from the cage.

Is the lock necessary?

No.

The lock is not necessary for the wheel's operation and does not make it more stable or quieter.

It is simply an additional feature, useful for those who want the option to stop the wheel without having to remove it.

If you don't need to limit its use, you can safely choose the version without the lock.
